1045 Post Road East

Westport

We do a lot of renovations to commercial buildings for commercial uses. This building was a commercial service building repurposed as a retail center and our office was challenged with the enjoyable task of updating the exterior, making the building more relevant to ever-evolving retail environment.

We seek to create architecture that has integrity, believing that the more real they are, the more relevant they will be. A retail center may not be a socially important archetype, yet it is a building seen and used every day. While it’s retail use might be ordinary it impacts the visual landscape. In our search for integrity we like to look at the bones of the structure, stripping away layers of masking to expose the original character of the building, and at 645 Post Road, we leveraged that into a more honest version that would support the new use.

Later, we would begin work on the neighboring property at The Village Center. Building upon the same principles of integrity to create a harmony across the two sister-sites, we would strip away the fake facades to create a unison between them. Check out our work at The Village Center.
